Dr. Shady comes to Global Studies with a strong background and substantial experience in political science and international affairs research and pedagogy. As academic coordinator, Dr. Shady will offer a range of inspiring Global Studies courses, serve as a point person for new Program initiatives, and be an important resource for Global Studies majors.

Hi everyone, I’m Dr. Stephanie Shady, and I’m excited to join you as the new Academic Coordinator and a Lecturer in Global Studies! Although I am a political scientist, I have always loved learning about the world from an interdisciplinary perspective. I came to value interdisciplinary studies through my Spanish literature degree as an undergraduate and enjoy reading fiction about political issues to enhance my understanding of them. My primary topic of interest is migration, which stems from my grandfather’s own migration journey from Egypt. Currently, I am building a dataset of immigration-related protests in the U.S. with a Global Studies alumnus! I am also interested in international cooperation, and I run a year-long class connected to the world’s largest Model United Nations conference.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking with my partner and our dogs, Maddie and Sage, cooking, and photographing my travels inside and outside the U.S. Please stop by my office in McMillan 253 to say hello, and I hope to see you in class and at upcoming Global Studies events!
